Equestrian Activities in the Park of Pena
Pony or Horse Rides
An authentic journey back in time to the 19th century. Pony and horse rides help you immerse yourself in the Romantic spirit of the Park of Pena and experience this unique place as Ferdinand II once did.
A different way to visit the Park of Pena
There are experiences that truly act as time machines. The equestrian activities in the Park of Pena provide just that sensation — through horse, carriage or pony rides, visitors “return to the past” and understand how people strolled through the park in the 19th century. It is a journey at the pace of another era, while prioritising respect for animal welfare in line with present-day standards.
In the western area of the Park, Pena Farm has hosted an equestrian activity programme since 2013. Next to the Abegoaria are the stables, home to saddle horses, ponies and Ardennes horses — strong yet gentle animals. For them, a ride through the Park of Pena, always at their own pace, involves very little physical effort. Nevertheless, to ensure their comfort, all rides are interspersed with rest periods.
At the Stables, visitors can observe the animals’ daily handling routines, including shoeing sessions, hoof cleaning, veterinary care and other hygiene and feeding practices. These facilities offer exceptional standards of animal welfare, equipped with feed and hay storage, bedding materials, and all the equipment used daily to ensure the safety, health and comfort of the animals at the Pena Farm.
Near the stables there is a paddock used for warming up the horses and preparing the ponies before each ride begins. Behind it, built into the hillside, there is a large reservoir of spring water used for fire prevention and cleaning, ensuring that the animals are kept in a safe and hygienic environment at all times.
Pony Ride
The pony ride begins at the former Stables of the Park of Pena and follows the surrounding paths. Younger visitors can enjoy their first unforgettable experience with Bilau, a pony specially trained for this purpose, always accompanied by a handler.
Children can also watch the animals’ daily care routines at the Stables, where they benefit from exceptional welfare conditions. It is a memorable moment that encourages interaction with the animal and connection with nature, perfect for families.
Horse Rides
Horse rides in the Park of Pena, departing from the Stables at the Pena Farm, offer the opportunity to admire this creation of Ferdinand II from a different perspective, accompanied by the rhythm and sound of the hooves of Cordobes, Macia and Viena.
Another way to explore the Park of Pena, in harmony with nature.
