Fireflies and Other Nocturnal Fauna

On a guided walk that begins at sunset, discover the magic of fireflies and the surprising nocturnal life of the forest — from bats to birds of prey, along with the sounds of amphibians. A rare opportunity to observe, listen to, and experience nature in night mode.

By the Light of Fireflies

What happens in Nature after hours?

Our guided walk along the trails of the Tapada de Monserrate begins shortly before sunset, allowing us to gradually adjust to the fading light.

The true highlight of these sessions is the fireflies, which at this time of year put on an unforgettable light display. But other creatures awaken with the night… from moths to birds of prey, we will also carry out acoustic detection of bats and, in silence, listen to the choruses of amphibians singing by the lagoon.

This is a unique opportunity to discover nocturnal fauna—less visible, yet essential—and to understand its ecological importance. Accompanied by biologist Mário Carmo, we will explore nocturnal vertebrates and invertebrates, including insects, mammals, amphibians, and birds that inhabit the Serra de Sintra.

A moment of science for all ages.
