Park of Pena: Guided Tour

Discover the Park of Pena on a guided tour through the places that reveal the Romantic vision of King Ferdinand II, the Artist-King who transformed this landscape into an extraordinary setting where nature, architecture and art come together.

The experience begins at the Lakes Entrance, where participants are welcomed before being taken by transport through the Park to the Riding Ring, the starting point of the guided tour.

Over approximately 90 minutes, accompanied by a specialist cultural mediator, explore paths, gardens, viewpoints and architectural features that reveal how King Ferdinand II conceived the Park as a succession of different settings, perspectives and surprises.

Highlights may include the Riding Ring, Temple of Columns, Warrior Statue, Queen’s Table, St Catherine’s Heights, Queen’s Fern Valley, Little Birds Fountain and the Valley of the Lakes.

More than a walk through a historic garden, this tour offers an opportunity to understand the ideas, stories and choices that shaped one of Sintra’s most distinctive Romantic landscapes.

The guided tour takes place every Monday and Tuesday at 10:30am, in Portuguese and/or English.

The meeting point is at the Lakes Ticket Office/Shop, located at the Lakes Entrance to the Park of Pena. From here, participants are transported to the Riding Ring, where the guided tour begins.

Visitors should arrive at the meeting point at least 15 minutes before the scheduled starting time.

A maximum tolerance of 15 minutes after the scheduled starting time is allowed. After this period, participation in the tour cannot be guaranteed.

The guided visit is mainly on foot, includes some uphill sections and covers approximately 1.5 km. The route may vary and does not necessarily finish at the same point where it begins.

The guided tour does not include the Chalet of the Countess of Edla, which may be visited independently during your time in the Park.

Before or after the guided tour, you are welcome to continue exploring the Park of Pena at your own pace.

Comfortable clothing and footwear suitable for walking are recommended.
