Quartetto Altemps - Master and Disciples

Explore one of the defining lineages in the history of music through works by Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven. Quartetto Altemps leads audiences on a journey through the evolution of the string quartet, from Classical elegance to the expressive language that heralded the Romantic era.

Master and Disciples

From Joseph Haydn, the founder of the modern string quartet, to the expressive genius of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and the transformative force of Ludwig van Beethoven, this concert traces one of the most remarkable creative lineages in the history of Western music. Through three masterpieces of the Viennese Classical period, it reveals how the string quartet became a privileged medium for innovation, dialogue and continual reinvention, leading the genre from Classical elegance to the expressive intensity that would pave the way for Romanticism.

Performed by the Quartetto Altemps, this programme recaptures the transparency of sound, tonal balance and richness of articulation that characterised chamber music performance of the period. In the intimate setting of the National Palace of Queluz, the string quartet returns to the scale for which it was conceived, offering a renewed encounter with a repertoire in which heritage, listening and performance converge in a single artistic experience.
