At the Royal Quinta of Queluz with Aline Hall de Beuvink: The Paths of Opera
Travel through the history of music in Queluz and discover the spaces where opera once enchanted the Court. Join us for €3 and help reforest the cultural landscape.
The Paths of Opera
Music was a constant presence in Queluz in the second half of the 18th century. On special occasions — such as the name days and birthdays of Queen Maria I, King Pedro III, and other members of the Royal Family — serenatas and operas were performed for the Court, as happened on December 17, 1778, the queen’s birthday, with the opera Il ritorno d’Ulisse in Itaca by David Perez.
To mark the International Day for Monuments and Sites, we will explore several interior and exterior spaces of the Palace of Queluz that were connected to musical performances during this period. We will also discover, in the basements of the Pavilhão D. Maria I, the surviving remains of the last opera house built for the Royal Family, following similar venues in Ajuda and Salvaterra de Magos.
