The second day of Jazz at Monserrate invites audiences to follow an artistic itinerary in which contemporary creation is in constant dialogue with memory. Framed by this year's theme, "Other Times", the two concerts explore different ways of revisiting the past and transforming it into new creative expression, leading audiences from the reinvention of a musical legacy to the intimacy of song.

Rita Maria and Angélica Salvi's performance is one of the festival's most distinctive moments. Together they present MA (間), a project that reimagines the music of Bernardo Sassetti through composition, improvisation and the dialogue between voice and harp. The title refers to the Japanese concept of the interval or the space between things, and to the creative potential that emerges within it. It is in this space between sound and silence, memory and invention that the project finds its identity, offering a reflection on time as living material, continually renewed through performance and listening.

Closing Saturday's programme, Becca Stevens performs solo, inviting audiences to end the day with music that is deeply personal, with song at its heart. Her delicate and expressive performance naturally extends the reflection begun in the previous concert, leading it towards a more intimate and contemplative dimension. Balancing echoes of tradition with a thoroughly contemporary musical language, she creates a space of closeness and quiet reflection, bringing the day to a close with remarkable intensity.

Biographies

• Rita Maria and Angélica Salvi have developed artistic paths that converge through their exploration of improvisation, contemporary creation and the dialogue between different musical languages. Bringing together voice, harp, electronics and composition, they create sound worlds in which listening, experimentation and creative freedom take centre stage, establishing themselves as two of the most distinctive artists working in contemporary music today.
• A singer, composer and improviser, Rita Maria has developed a unique musical language that brings together song, oral tradition, jazz and improvised music. Initially trained in classical singing, she later studied jazz in Porto and at Berklee College of Music in Boston, collaborating throughout her career with many of Portugal's leading musicians as well as internationally renowned artists. Alongside her work as a performer, she is active as a curator and artistic director, co-founding RODA Independent Music Label and directing the THEIA Festival.
• A Spanish harpist, composer and sound artist based in Porto, Angélica Salvi specialises in improvisation, contemporary and electroacoustic music, pursuing an international career that combines performance, live electronics and multidisciplinary artistic practices. She has collaborated with leading composers and improvisers and has presented her work at numerous international festivals, establishing herself as one of the most original voices in Portugal's contemporary sound art scene.
• Singer, songwriter, guitarist and multi-instrumentalist Becca Stevens is one of the most distinctive artists in contemporary American music. Her work inhabits a unique territory where jazz, folk, pop, classical music and singer-songwriter traditions converge, creating a musical language that defies categorisation and has earned her widespread international critical acclaim.
• Throughout her career, she has released several albums as a bandleader and collaborated with some of today's most influential musicians, including Brad Mehldau, Jacob Collier, Michael League, Chris Thile, Gretchen Parlato, Snarky Puppy and David Crosby. Her writing is distinguished by its harmonic sophistication, melodic originality and the way it combines technical virtuosity with emotional depth and narrative power.
• Alongside her work as a performer and composer, Becca Stevens has built an international career that has taken her to leading concert halls and festivals across Europe, North America and Asia. Her most recent projects explore increasingly personal themes, including memory, identity, loss and transformation.
• At Jazz at Monserrate, she performs solo, presenting a programme spanning different stages of her recording career, with particular emphasis on “Maple To Paper”, her latest release.

• Public transport: Scotturb bus 435 and Carris Metropolitana bus 1253, both departing from Sintra railway station.
• By car: From the N247 road in Colares, follow the N375 to the Park and Palace of Monserrate.
