Where the Sintra Hills meet silence
Convent of the Capuchos
An ode to simplicity: a Franciscan convent where human construction blends into granite boulders and woodland — one of the finest surviving examples of Sintra’s ancient forest.
A life stripped of luxuries
The Convent’s small scale and stark construction are part of its unique atmosphere. Here, simplicity is a choice: architecture adapts to rock, vegetation and the damp air of the hills, creating a place that feels carved out of the landscape itself.
The surrounding woodland was kept intact by the friars who lived here — so visiting Capuchos is also stepping into a living landscape where nature and silence are part of the experience.
